This collection primarily contains personal correspondence sent by David William Davies to his wife, Thelma Davies, while working as a librarian and serving in the United States Army Corps during World War II.
David William Davies was born in 1908. He held three Ph.D.'s, (history, library science, and education). Before arriving at the Claremont Colleges as the first Head Librarian at Honnold Library, Davies was the former assistant librarian in the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley. In August 1941 he was appointed as librarian at Utah State University, College of Agriculture.

In order to quote from, publish, or reproduce any of the manuscripts or visual materials, researchers must obtain formal permission from the office of the Library Director. In most instances, permission is given by the Huntington as owner of the physical property rights only, and researchers must also obtain permission from the holder of the literary rights. In some instances, the Huntington owns the literary rights, as well as the physical property rights. Researchers may contact the appropriate curator for further information.
