Abstract: The Derek Liecty papers document his work as a bicycle consultant and advocate. The bulk of the papers relate to his activities as Men's Outreach Co-Chair and Executive Director of Different Spokes/San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Bicycling Club and as an organizer of a nationwide attempt to have an AIDS Bike-A-Thon called Cycle for Life. Biography/Administrative History

Derek Liecty was a soccer star at Stanford University, a charter Federation of Gay Games director, winner of the 2006 Tom Waddell Award and a lifelong bicycling advocate.

Scope and Content of Collection

The Derek Liecty papers document his work as a bicycle consultant and advocate. The bulk of the papers relate to his activities as Men's Outreach Co-Chair and Executive Director of Different Spokes/San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Bicycling Club and as an organizer of a nationwide attempt to have an AIDS Bike-A-Thon called Cycle for Life. There are also materials related to the Gay Games; Liecty’s activities as Assistant Floor Manager of the Sixth International Conference on AIDS; his participation in a Stop AIDS Project discussion group; Liecty’s experience with the Human Sexuality Enrichment Series at The Advocate Experience; and his work as a facilitator for bisexual groups at the Pacific Center for Human Growth in Berkeley. The collection includes organizational records, correspondence, financial records, meeting minutes, outreach materials, and press releases.
