Historical Note

The Harry Kurnitz Creative Writing Awards for Foreign Students was established in 1965. The award is given for creative works written in English by international students at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
The award is named for Harry Kurnitz, an American playwright and screenwriter from New York and Los Angeles who spent a portion of his life in Europe. The award is also known as "The Harry Kurnitz Foreign Students Creative Writing Award" and "The Kurnitz Award." This award is given annually.
