Series 01.  Collected manuscripts and personal collections of others, 1879-2007 (bulk 1940-2007)

Extent: 518 folders

Scope and Content Note

This series contains items from Huycke's file cabinets labeled Biographies, Personnel. Huycke acquired these materials as part of his interest in the last of the square rigger and steamship sailors and vessels. Many of the collections herein are related to those who were involved with or who researched the last of the deep sea square riggers, coastwise schooners and steamships in the late 19th and 20th Centuries. Many of these individuals were authors in their own right and prepared manuscripts for Huycke to review prior to publication. Many of these manuscripts can be found here. The series also contains writings by Huycke that reference these materials. Contains extensive information on Gene Harrower, Fred Klebingat, John R. Lyman, Patrick Alexander MacDonald, Clarence Matson, and Adrian F. Raynaud.

Arrangement

Follows Huycke's original order which is roughly alphabetical. Depending on volume, Huycke grouped documents associated with individuals under one letter, e.g. "A" file; and in some instances subject persons were placed in their own file or files.
