Background
The Gold Shield Alumnae of UCLA was founded in 1936 by twelve UCLA women graduates to foster the relationship between UCLA
and the Los Angeles community and to support UCLA in its continued growth. In 1939, the organization launched its scholarship
program, establishing the first Alumni Scholarship Fund at UCLA.
