Fan Leaf Palm Trees. "Very old Fan Palms -- quite rare. The Fan Palm is much used for decoration. Generally the lower leaves
are trimmed off as they die, leaving the trunk jagged -- as in the first picture [i.e. 6485:1.]. But occasionally they are
allowed to stay & droop as in this picture. After the tree reaches a certain age, a smooth section appears & grows taller,
carrying the plume of leaves higher as in this picture.” B 14.
