Group portrait of California Alpine Club members who participated in the 1926 Mountain Play, Rip Van Winkle. The California
Alpine Club, a local hiking group affiliated with the YMCA, was established in 1913. During the mid-1930s some of its members
assisted the Civilian Conservation Corp with the terracing of the amphitheater on Mount Tamalpais. The Mountain Play Association
began its annual production in an outdoor amphitheater on top of Mount Tamalpais, Marin County, in 1913. Shows run for several
weekends, beginning each May. This image is from a collection of scrapbooks, deposited with the California Room in 1975, by
Mountain Play Association Director, Marion Hayes Cain.
