A cool but much pleasanter day than yesterday, quite a sudden change, feel very well. War news of no account. At work as usual
in the office considerable to do. Board of Examiners met again today. A man by the name of Hayes died this morning. He had
been here but a few days. Wrote several pages in my new scrapbook, in the afternoon read a few chapters in Hopes and Fears.
Find it a very interesting story. In the afternoon (4) received a letter from my betrothed announcing the painful news that
my Uncle had fallen and badly injured his leg broken last summer. In the evening wrote long letter in answer. Had quite a
social talk with some comrads on the interesting topic of marriage. One contending that it was more [prejudicial] than good.
I could not agree with him on the whole. The discussion wath quite interesting. Prayer meeting in the 11 Ward concluded by
Rev. W. H. Channing Hospital Chaplain. succeded quite well in my resolutions.
